Noir Coffee
This project is a conceptual brand that utilizes digital illustration across different packages and products.
The Concept:
Noir Coffee is a conceptual ethically sourced coffee brand inspired by film noir, an American filmmaking style popular in the 1940s and 50s, which was characterized by mystery, crime, and dark subject matter. Themes of suspense, darkness and light, and intrigue are defining concepts in this brand’s identity.
The Challenge:
As part of a Concept & Creativity Development class, create a unique brand identity with design elements used in multiple different contexts.
The Process - Sketches and Early Concepts
The concept began with a word mark, which was inspired by the typography in hand painted film posters and title cards of the period. As my initial idea developed, I became inspired by noir detective comics, which would become the concept of my package and product designs.
The Process - Digital Illustrations
Characters and props illustrations were planned ahead of time and then incorporated with type and layout to create the brand identity. Each element was drawn in a cohesive style reminiscent of noir film and comics.
Final Designs - Packaging and Napkins
Final Designs - The Café
As a brick and mortar café, Noir Coffee would utilize muted colors, noir film memorabilia, and atmospheric lighting to create an experience for the brand.
